Happy Mother’s Day in the UK!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms in the United Kingdom!
Did you know that different countries have Mother’s Day on different days? The UK, Ireland, and Nigeria has theirs on Sunday, March 6 this year. It is held three weeks before Easter. Many Middle Eastern countries hold theirs on Spring Equinox and many countries share the date with the US, the second Sunday in May.
There is a scattering of other dates, including the last Sunday in May celebrated in France, Sweden, Madagascar, Morocco, Sweden and five other countries. Thailand holds theirs on the birthday of their Queen, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, or August 12. Some strongly Roman Catholic countries hold their Mother’s Day on special holy days such as the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (Panama) or Dia La Madre (Argentina) or the Assumption of Mary in Costa Rica. While in South Korea, both parents share the day.
Regardless of what day Mother’s Day is held on one thing remains the same; the importance of a mother’s love is celebrated and honored. Every year on these dates children around the world do something special for their mothers. I often get kids’ drawings of their mothers to be made into softie or this creative Christmas present from a little boy for his mom. It is always so wonderful to see how much they love their mom, even if the drawing may not be totally accurate, it is done with love!
